The Cliff Lanes' Wednesday morning league - The Alley Cats
- donate a portion of their winnings and sanction fees to
a Custer County High School student each year to help pay
for college or continued vocational education.
All
8 teams on the Alley Cats league give their competition
winnings along with individual contributions to the Wet
Mountain Valley Rotary Foundation in lieu of accruing 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place cash prizes at the end of each season.
The Young American Bowling Alliance, various other sanctioned
league teams, and the Cliff Lanes Family Entertainment Center
also contribute to the local college scholarship fund.
Applications
for the local scholarship funds are distributed to each
senior student through the Custer County High School. Applications
are reviewed shortly after graduation, and the WMV Rotary
Foundation scholarship committee interviews 8 to 10 award
candidates in early May. The WMV Rotary Foundation presents
the Cliff Lanes - Alley Cats League - scholarship award
every June.
The
criteria for the scholarship award include scholastic scoring,
extra-curricular school activity, community involvement,
and leadership. The WMV Rotary Foundation presented an award
totaling $1,250 in 2004.
